Ins & Outs of New Impact Windows Maintenance

Congrats! You’ve just recently had your new impact windows installed and they are glistening in the sunlight. You could stare out of them all day long, or until you notice a smudge. And another, and another. As time goes on, the elements will cake on your impact windows. To avoid this and keep your impact windows crystal clear all year long, consider the following tips to ensure they keep looking beautiful and function flawlessly for years to come.

Use The Right Tools To Clean Any Gunk

When cleaning your windows, it’s essential you make sure you have the right tools equipped for the job. Using a scraper to remove dirt and debris can actually scratch your windows and cause unsightly scrapes across the pane. If your impact windows have dirt and other heavier debris caked on, simply use water from your hose to soften up the debris before wiping away with a nonabrasive towel.

Follow The Process

To best clean your windows follow this simple process:

  1. Spray down the glass with a hose. Do not use a pressure washer, as these can damage the grout. Heavier gunk and debris should come loose. If not, use a non-abrasive towel to remove. Spray down with water once again.
  2. As the window is drying, use a squeegee to remove any excess water remaining from the spray down. DO NOT let the window dry in the sun, as direct sunlight will leave watermarks across the glass.
  3. After squeegeeing the glass, apply your non-abrasive glass cleaner to your impact windows. Wipe down with a fresh microfiber towel (do not use the same one twice).

Check Your Windows For Any Signs of Wear & Tear

While this isn’t a concern for brand new impact windows, as time goes on you should be on the lookout for any telltale signs of your impact windows wearing down over time or more pressing issues that need to be addressed and repaired immediately.

It’s a good rule of thumb to check your windows after every major storm, as heavy winds can throw debris around. While your windows were designed to protect you from thrown debris and other dangers, they still wear down from each impact. If you find any abrasions, cracks, or scratches, please contact us as soon as possible. Do not try to repair them yourself, as this could lead to further damaging your impact windows further.

How Do Impact Windows Protect You Against The Environment

When Mother Nature strikes your home, it can cause damage in a variety of different ways.

From heavy snowfall to large hail, to torrential rains that lead to flooding, the environment can be completely unpredictable and leave serious damage in its wake. While living in sunny South Florida certainly has its perks, it’s not exempt to these types of damage. In fact, South Florida is in the direct path of tropical storms and hurricanes alike, which bring heavy winds and serious rainfall as they move across the Atlantic Ocean towards Florida.

While homeowners have typically elected for more traditional methods such as accordion shutters or standard wood panels to protect their homes, impact windows actually protect your home tremendously better than the former options. In fact, impact windows offer protection against a number of environmental factors that could impact your home in a variety of ways.

Hurricane Protection

Designed with hurricanes in mind, impact windows offer drastically improved protection for your home over traditional methods such as shutters or wood panels. Eurotech impact windows are rated to withstand wind speeds upwards of 150+ miles per hour. This means that high wind speeds and airborne debris won’t be able to destroy your home in the middle of even the toughest storms.

UV Protection

With South Florida’s demanding heat it can be just as hot inside as it is outside! Homeowners may find themselves getting sunburns while sitting inside their home all day. This is caused by the sun’s harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays passing through standard windows and into your home. Not only can UV rays affect you, but can damage your belongings inside as well. Continued direct impact by UV rays can cause fabrics and paints to fade over time. Thankfully, Eurotech impact windows drastically reduce the amount of UV that is able to penetrate into the interior of your home, keeping you and your belongings safe—even if it’s 100 degrees out!

Sound Protection

Whether it’s a heavy storm raging outside, neighbors mowing their lawn early in the morning, or just traffic passing by, constant noise can quickly deteriorate your quality of life inside your home. Thick impact glass acts as a heavy insulator, keeping unwanted noise out of your home, bringing back the peace so you can enjoy your home with your loved ones to the fullest without any unnecessary distractions.

The environment may throw everything it can your way, but you can rest assured knowing you and your family are safe against the elements with your impact windows installed. To learn more, simply contact the Eurotech Windows team online, or give us a call at (954) 630-9967.

Commonly Asked Questions About Impact Doors

Here at ETI Windows, we strive to provide our customers with as much information as possible so they can make the best investment decisions for their home. We’ve noticed through the years that many of our clients will have the same questions about their impact doors. While we do our best to outline some of these throughout the site and whenever someone reaches out to us, there are some questions we’d like to highlight to better assist you while making your decision.

What Makes A Door “Impact”?

There’s essentially two core types of doors: normal doors—otherwise known as builder’s standard doors—and impact resistant doors. Normal doors are typically constructed with two pieces of wood and consist of an insulation filler in between. While considered the building standard, they tend to crack, warp and fall apart over time due to the heavy rains and winds of living in South Florida. Standard glass used in doors can be easily damaged by severe winds and debris.

With impact doors, that becomes a worry of the past. Typically, impact doors are made with either an aluminum, steel, or a fiberglass casing with reinforced hinges and hurricane resistant glass. All Eurotech Industries doors are made with a heavy gauge aluminum alloy frame to guarantee maximum strength. This ensures that your doors can withstand whatever the elements may throw at them, even if it may be the toughest of hurricanes.

Am I Trapped To One Style Of Door?

No! While many other impact window door providers typically offer one set style, we provide a multitude of styles that take influence from more modern European styles to both enhance

Just like our windows, we offer a variety of impact doors to match your style. From french doors to Bermuda doors, we’ll have what you’re looking for. Don’t see it? Don’t worry! We also offer custom door options to better suit exactly what you’re looking for.

What Benefits Do I Get With My Impact Door?

Aside from their immediate protection against the devastating impact of heavy storms, impact doors offer a multitude of benefits designed to provide you and your loved ones with peace of mind. Impact doors are designed to withstand large impacts, which means they’re perfect for deterring home invaders. Impact glass doesn’t shatter the same way as normal glass, ensuring nobody will be able to break in easily.

Additionally, insurance providers typically provide credits/discounts back to homeowners who have impact windows & doors installed in their homes.

Impact windows and doors provide an immediate boost to your property’s value. They’re highly sought after in the housing market, making them a high value addition to your home.

Common Questions About Hurricane Impact Doors

Regardless of whatever type of improvement you’re making to your property, you will always be perplexed by numerous questions concerning the improvement. And when it comes to impact doors, especially, Eurotech Industries completely understands how frustrating it can be to comprehend these models. You might have many questions concerning hurricane impact doors, and while we might not be able to answer them all, Eurotech Industries have prepared a small list of answers below to the most common questions concerning impact doors. So if you want your questions answered concerning impact doors, then continue reading below.

Common Questions About Hurricane Impact Doors

Why Should I Buy Impact Doors?

The biggest reason why you should at least consider buying impact doors is that they provide additional protection from the outside. If you’re a resident of South Florida, then you’re well aware of just how popular our region is for hurricanes. Because of this, have an impact door will likely prove to be a very valuable and important asset to include in your property.

After your impact door is installed, you’ll have total peace of mind knowing that your newly installed doors will protect you from harsh storms. Moreover, you can also rest assured knowing that other property occupants will be kept safe from harm’s way as well.

Will Impact Doors Boost My Home’s Resale Value?

The short answer: most definitely.

Thanks to their durability and appeal, impact doors will significantly increase your property’s resale value. So you can best believe that when the time comes to sell your home or commercial property, your impact doors will serve as a terrific selling point for prospective buyers. In summary, impact doors are a terrific investment for any property.

Do Impact Doors Only Protect Against Hurricanes?

Impact doors are widely known to be a good source of protection against hurricanes and other harsh storms. But besides that, they can also serve as a form of protection from many other things as well. For example, your new impact doors will provide you protection against the dangers of a home intrusion as there is virtually no amount of human force strong enough to shatter your windows.

Why Should I Replace My Current Doors With Impact Doors?

Replacing your regular doors with impact-resistant models will prove to be one of the best improvements you could make for your property. Obviously, the best benefit impact doors can provide is amazing protection. But besides that, impact doors can also help you save money as they’ll lower heating and cooling bills. More so, as mentioned above, impact doors will also help you to increase the resale value of your property as their inclusion will beautify and protect your home or business.

Will Impact Doors Break?

While they are exceptionally resilient to impact, impact doors aren’t entirely impervious to damage. Impact class is fabricated in order for it to be resistant to impact, but they’ll break in a safe way as opposed to standard models.

Regular glass doors will shatter easily and break into small, sharp pieces that will be dangerous to handle. Impact glass, however, is shatter-proof. So even if your impact doors do break, they will still remain intact so that no harm is brought to you or other property occupants.

Tropical Storm Fred: What To Know

South Florida is deep within hurricane season 2021, and it doesn’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon. While thus far we’ve avoided any major storms, that doesn’t mean we’re in the clear. In fact, another tropical storm is expected yet again very soon with Fred, the sixth named storm this year. While still a few days off from reaching us, it is still on the way. As we’re well underway through hurricane season 2021, it’s important for everyone to be prepared. We’ve compiled everything we know about Fred so far.

How Strong Is Fred So Far?

As of this posting, “Tropical Cyclone Six” is slowly but surely forming in the Caribbean. It’s current sustained winds are around 35 miles per hour, just 4 shy of the “tropical storm” designation. The expectation is that Fred – it’s name should it reach tropical storm status – will reach South Florida around 8pm Friday, and continue to make its way through the state until early Sunday morning.

What Should We Expect From Tropical Storm Fred?

As with all tropical storms, it’s important to treat them with just as much respect as any other large storm. While not as powerful as a hurricane, they can still cause severe damage in their wake. From downed power lines, to heavy rains which lead to flooding, tropical storm can potentially cause a good amount of damage. Based on projection models by NOAA, South Floridians should expect anywhere from 1-4 inches of rain, as well as wind speeds of anywhere between 40-70mph.

How Do I Protect My Home Against A Tropical Storm?

This Hurricane Season 2021, don’t make the mistake of taking any storm for granted. Whether it’s a tropical storm like Fred or a category 5 hurricane, you should take the necessary precautions to protect your home.

Thankfully, Eurotech Windows is here to help. We specialize in impact windows and doors that keep you, your family, and home safe, even against the toughest storms. Before Fred makes landfall, make sure to give our team a call so we can assist in getting your home set up before the next major storm makes its way towards South Florida

All About Our Impact Doors

When South Floridians think of upgrading their home for protection against hurricanes, they immediately go to impact windows. Impact windows can be a fantastic addition to any home, providing immediate support against even the toughest storms. That said, your home’s protection doesn’t have to start and stop at your windows. While many homeowners don’t give it much thought, impact doors can be a gamechanger for protecting your family against anything. Aside from protection, impact doors offer a wealth of benefits, guaranteed to be a valuable investment from day one.

Hurricane Protection

Each year from June to November, South Floridians hunker down against the elements as hurricanes and tropical storms crash against the coast. Each storm has the capability of causing mass devastation in its wake, so it’s crucial to defend your property to the best of your ability. Hurricane-resistant windows and shutters are the first line of defense against one of the most vulnerable places in your house. However, our doors provide that same protection across your home as well. Our doors were engineered to withstand winds and flying projects well over 150 miles per hour. Even the strongest hurricanes will have trouble trying to get through.

Peace Of Mind Against Burglars

Not only do impact doors shelter you against the elements, but burglars as well. While the stereotype is for burglars to bust in through your windows, home invaders have been known to bust doors down and enter that way. Some homeowners even leave their doors unlocked, as they believe nothing bad could happen while they’re out. That’s just not the case, even in the safest neighborhoods. Fortunately, that worry becomes a thing of the past with impact doors. The same impact-resistant doors protecting you and your family from hurricane-force winds will also protect against any burglar with a baseball bat. That peace of mind is sure to help you and your family sleep soundly through the night.

Insurance Benefits

With insurance costs steadily climbing across South Florida, homeowners are looking everywhere for any opportunity to get it lowered. Thankfully, most insurers in South Florida are offering discounts for homes with impact windows and doors installed. As long as every entry point is properly updated, you’ll be eligible to receive those insurance savings.

Improved Soundproofing

Another bonus of having impact doors installed is soundproofing. The added protective layers built into impact doors naturally insulate your home from any noise.

Plenty of Styles Available

Much like impact windows, impact doors come in a variety of styles. You’re never stuck to a specific style when it comes to your impact doors, allowing you to get something that fits the look of your home. Whether it be a contemporary or rustic feel you’re after, our team here at Eurotech Industries will be able to get what you want installed.

How To Properly Prepare For Hurricane Season 2021

While it may not seem like it, 2021 Hurricane Season is officially upon us. Starting every year in June, Hurricane Season officially gets underway, looming over South Floridian’s heads all the way through November. Unfortunately, many South Floridians will wait till the last minute as a hurricane is just hours away to start prepping for the incoming storm. Rather than just wait till it’s too late to start getting ready, it’s important to start your hurricane preparedness plan long before the first storm gets named.

Stock Up On Essential Supplies

Long time South Floridians know that every hurricane can knock down power lines, and cause blackouts across cities. Power could be out for a few days to several weeks. This leaves homeowners with no way to cook, store perishable foods, use their air conditioner, etc. The first step to your hurricane preparedness plan should be to stock up on absolute essentials. Some essentials include:

  • Non-Perishable Foods
  • Batteries
  • Water
  • First-Aid Kit
  • Sanitary Items (soap, toilet paper, etc.
  • Battery Powered Fans
  • Battery or Solar Powered Lights
  • Solar Charger & Battery Bank

Stocking up in advance gives the bonus of avoiding the rush to the stores after a storm is confirmed to be heading our way. The moment the storm is officially coming towards us, the masses rush out to their local store, swarming every aisle and shelf. Waiting can lead to very limited supplies being available. Don’t stress out at the last minute, and stock up early.

Set Up An Evacuation Plan

While homeowners across South Florida will hunker down through every single storm, there are a few that should not be messed with. Each year, there tends to be 2-3 category 4 or 5 storms, pulling wind speeds upwards of 160 miles per hour. These storms are not to be messed with, as they only leave devastation in their path. It’s important to establish an evacuation route in your hurricane preparedness plan. In the event of a high-powered storm emerging, knowing where to go can be all the difference to getting to your destination in a safe and timely manner. When planning your hurricane preparedness plan, make sure your evacuation destination is somewhere away from the coast, and at a higher elevation.

Ensure Your Home’s Safety With Hurricane Resistant Windows and Doors

Protecting your family, home, and belongings should be the priority when it comes to your hurricane preparedness plan. Many homeowners elect for either simple shutters or even just wood panels. While they are better than just leaving your windows exposed to the environment, they shouldn’t be your only defense. Higher category hurricane-strength winds have been known to rip panels and shutters off. Most homes built throughout the South Florida area before 2000 were constructed without hurricane-resistant windows. Updating your homes with hurricane-resistant glass offers far superior protection against the elements. Paired with shutters, you and your family can rest easy even when the toughest storm comes rolling through.

With so many different brands available, finding the right hurricane-resistant windows for your hurricane preparedness plan can be difficult. Thankfully, you can trust our glass when you need to most. All Eurotech Windows & Doors are rated far higher than the competition. Interested in learning more? Simply contact us online or give us a call at (954) 630-9967 and our team will be happy to assist!
